Fuel prices saw a sharp increase during July. According to the ADAC’s evaluation of fuel prices for the past month, published on Monday, the price of diesel fuel, in particular, experienced massive growth over the course of the month. On July 5th, the average price for a liter of diesel was still 1.946 Euros, but by July 31st, drivers had to pay an average of 2.225 Euros, representing an increase of 27.9 cents.
The price of Super E10 also rose significantly compared to the first days of the month. The cheapest day of July, July 1st, saw the price at 2.016 Euros. By July 23rd, the most expensive day, the liter of Super E10 cost 2.168 Euros, which was 15.2 cents more.
The average price for one liter of Super E10 throughout July was 2.099 Euros. This price was only one cent below the all-time high of 2.109 Euros recorded in April 2026. For diesel, the average price in July stood at 2.097 Euros, but this was still significantly lower than the record month of April, when a liter cost 2.263 Euros.
The ADAC has strongly criticized the price hike in recent weeks. While the Mobilitätsclub noted that the crude oil price momentarily rose above 100 U.S. dollars per barrel on July 23rd, even though it dropped significantly below 90 U.S. dollars by the end of the month, the fuel prices did not react accordingly and even continued to rise. From the ADAC’s perspective, this situation requires an investigation by the Federal Cartel Office, specifically to critically examine the refinery and wholesale prices.
