The “Deutschlandticket” a nationwide public transport pass, has been secured for the next five years, according to Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder. Schnieder announced Thursday that an agreement has been reached with the Federal Ministry of Finance to allocate €1.5 billion annually until 2030. The Minister acknowledged the budgetary challenges in achieving this commitment and expressed gratitude to the Federal Finance Minister for their support.
Following discussions, the states have agreed to a price increase to €63 in 2026 for the ticket. Further development of pricing beyond 2027 will be determined by the upcoming Conference of Transport Ministers in late October. This future pricing structure will be based on a defined cost index.
Recognizing regional disparities in public transport accessibility, Schnieder emphasized that public transport isn’t universally viable for all citizens. He highlighted the recent decision to increase the commuter allowance, partly in response to this reality. The Minister, himself originating from a region where public transport is less prevalent, underscored the government’s awareness of the diverse needs across the country.
