Gas Prices Inch Up Despite Stable Oil

Despite stable crude oil prices, fuel costs in Germany have seen a slight increase, according to a recent analysis by ADAC, the German automobile club.

Currently, the average price for a liter of Super E10 across the country stands at €1.673, a rise of 0.4 cents compared to the previous week. Diesel has experienced an even more pronounced increase, rising by 0.6 cents per liter to reach €1.623.

ADAC has expressed concerns that diesel prices, in particular, are disproportionately high. The recent upward trend in both gasoline and diesel is difficult to justify given the consistent oil prices and a strengthening Euro against the US dollar. Brent crude oil is currently trading at just under $69 per barrel, unchanged from last week, while the Euro has recovered to above $1.17. These factors would normally suggest a downward pressure on fuel prices.

The automobile club believes diesel has been overpriced for some time, making the latest price increase particularly perplexing. The price difference between Super E10 and diesel has narrowed to just 5 cents per liter, highlighting what ADAC suggests is a significant overcharge for diesel consumers.

ADAC advises motorists to consider fueling their vehicles in the evenings, when prices are typically lower – an average of over 10 cents less than morning rates. Furthermore, it recommends avoiding service stations directly on major highways, suggesting drivers save money by refueling off the motorway, often saving over 40 cents per liter.
