Following the events in Ceuta, the German Police Union (GdP) has issued a warning about a potential increase in illegal attempts to enter Germany. Andreas Roßkopf, head of the Federal Police division at the GdP, told the “Tagesspiegel” that the current situation clearly shows that illegal migration is far from resolved, adding, “We are now seeing that it could start again immediately.”
To ensure the safety of Germany’s borders, Roßkopf demanded that the development of the Federal Police into a modern, flexible border force be vigorously promoted. Specifically, the union representative called for the implementation of drone technology, license plate recognition systems, modern pursuit vehicles, and comprehensive mobile and flexible border checks structured as modular solutions. He stressed that such equipment is absolutely essential for the Federal Police.
Furthermore, he emphasized the critical need for EU member states to quickly agree on joint action and to provide “everything necessary” to support Spain in handling the crisis. Roßkopf warned, “Under no circumstances should we leave Spain to deal with this situation alone. We must not repeat the mistakes of past years.”
