The 45th Panzer Brigade “Lithuania,” which is assigned to the NATO Eastern Flank, is currently staffed by approximately 60 percent of its personnel as of July 31st, according to figures from the Federal Ministry of Defence, which were cited by the “Bild-Zeitung”.
While the physical staffing level in Lithuania is reported to be at 92 percent, the overall percentage for the entire brigade-factoring in the forces stationed within Germany-is currently around 60 percent. This means that 60 percent of the personnel who are scheduled to arrive in Lithuania towards the end of next year are already confirmed and assigned specific duty posts. The Ministry stated that this personnel growth has been realized through volunteer applications and continues to develop positively.
The Brigade “Lithuania” is planned to be fully operational by the end of 2027, consisting of a total of 4,800 soldiers and 200 civilian employees. This unit represents the first major formation that the German armed forces (Bundeswehr) will deploy permanently abroad.
