The number of asylum applications filed in Germany in May dropped to the lowest level recorded for the month since 2013. According to data from the Federal Ministry of the Interior, as reported by the newspaper “Bild” 5,566 applications were submitted nationwide in the past month. This represents a 30 percent reduction compared to May of the previous year, with the decline standing at 75 percent when comparing May 2024 to May 2023. Federal Minister of the Interior, Alexander Dobrindt (CSU), commented to the newspaper that “the migration turning point continues”. He added that the goal remains to “effectively regulate” migration and continue reducing the current burdens.
