German Asylum Arrivals Hit Lowest October Intake Since 2011, Signaling Major Trend Change

The number of new arrivals registered within the asylum procedure in Germany dropped significantly again in October 2026. According to recent data from the Federal Ministry of the Interior, the number of asylum applications and new arrivals recorded in the previous month was 5,707 people, as reported by “Bild.” This figure represents a decline of approximately 40 percent compared to the previous year’s month (October 2025: 8,823). Furthermore, when compared to October 2024, when 19,785 new arrivals were recorded, the number decreased by almost 70 percent. This decline establishes the lowest figure for October since 2011, when the total stood at 4,106.

Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) viewed this trend positively, referring to it as a genuine reversal. Dobrindt told the newspaper, “We are successfully turning back illegal migration. Now it is about permanently securing this trend: We are consistently and decisively organizing, steering, and controlling illegal migration-in Germany and together with our partners at the European level.”
