A meeting between Chancellor Friedrich Merz and leading executives, facilitated by the “Made for Germany” initiative, is anticipated to be charged with considerable expectations from the business community.
Monika Schnitzer, Chair of the German Council of Economic Experts, told the “Rheinische Post” that the declared commitment from companies represents a positive indication of their confidence in the German location. However, she emphasized that translating this declaration into tangible results will require more than just words. Businesses are expected to seek assurances from the federal government in the form of planning certainty and both political and financial support for their investment plans.
Schnitzer underscored the necessity of private sector investment for Germany to regain positive growth figures. To expedite this process, she suggested vital reforms including accelerated approval processes, shortened planning procedures and a clearly defined and consistently adhered-to strategy. She anticipates that representatives from the business community will directly communicate these requirements to the Chancellor during the forthcoming meeting.
