German Car Brands Dominate Self-Registration in 2025

German automotive manufacturers registered a significantly higher number of vehicles in the first half of 2025, according to data from industry service Dataforce. The total reached 128,000 vehicles, representing a substantial increase of nearly 30,000 compared to the same period last year. The “Handelsblatt” reports on this trend in its Tuesday edition.

Volkswagen emerged as the leader in manufacturer registrations with approximately 46,000 vehicles. The company also maintains the largest overall vehicle sales volume in Germany. However, when considering the proportion of registrations relative to total sales, Mini led the way with a significant share of 36.4 percent. This position is attributed, in part, to a change in the company’s distribution model.

In the electric vehicle sector, Opel has achieved a leading market share, accounting for 48.5 percent of manufacturer registrations. This marks a dramatic shift from the previous year, when the company’s contribution was less than 1 percent. Opel attributes this surge to internal leasing programs for employees and the deployment of demonstration vehicles showcasing new models.
