German Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday evening, as Federal Government spokesman Stefan Kornelius announced.
Zelenskyy thanked Germany for the “Winter‑Aid Package” which the government described as a bundle of further support for Ukraine’s air‑defence. The package also includes block‑heating power stations and generators, aimed at helping the civilian population withstand the brutal Russian attacks, Kornelius added.
Merz denounced Russia’s “ongoing systematic and brutal destruction of civilian energy infrastructure” with the attacks described as the harshest to date.
Both leaders welcomed efforts to secure a truce, and the Chancellor reiterated Germany’s commitment to a just and lasting peace for Ukraine. Kornelius said the two sides remained in close contact.
