German Coalition Demands Concrete Roadmap for Tax Reform Implementation by 2027

The Union coalition demands a concrete timetable for the planned tax reform during the high-level meeting involving the CDU, CSU, and SPD this Tuesday. The primary objective is to ensure that the planned financial relief measures take effect on January 1, 2027.

Steffen Bilger, the parliamentary director for the Union faction in the Bundestag, told the “Tagesspiegel” that the Coalition Committee presents a valuable opportunity to draw up an actionable implementation plan for targeted reductions in taxes for smaller and medium-income brackets. He noted that the Union and the SPD have already reached a basic agreement regarding an income tax cut starting January 1, 2027, and that the discussions should build upon this established consensus.

Furthermore, according to Bilger, all future decisions made by the coalition must be evaluated based on their ability to revitalize the economy.
