German Coalition: SPD Demands Review After 100 Days

One hundred days into the tenure of Germany’s new governing coalition, the leader of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), Bärbel Bas, has called for a renewed agreement outlining future collaboration within the coalition. In an interview with “Politico” published Wednesday, Bas stated, “We need to clarify a few things”. She emphasized public expectations, adding, “People expect us to work together reasonably and move the country forward.

Bas intends to address these points at the next coalition committee meeting, scheduled for September. “At the moment, many have the impression that we are arguing again. That’s why we need an agreement after the summer break on how we can work together confidently within the coalition once more” she explained.

The Federal Minister of Labour also cautioned against downplaying the progress already made. “We have already initiated several key developments in the first 100 days. In my department, I would cite the pension package and the law on compliance with collective bargaining agreements as examples” Bas stated.
