Germany’s Minister for Development, Reem Alabali‑Radovan, denounced Israel’s actions in the West Bank as making a two‑state solution impossible. “While people in Gaza suffer, the Israeli government is still creating facts on the ground in the West Bank” she told the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” on a Saturday edition.
Alabali‑Radovan said that permitting settlers to purchase land in occupied territories is a de facto annexation and “clearly illegal under international law”. She added that the E1 settlement project, which would split the West Bank into two parts, destroys the territorial basis for a sovereign Palestinian state.
She voiced doubt about the future of the Palestinian Authority, warning it may not survive the year. “It is financially drained and losing its land” she cautioned.
Alabali‑Radovan also criticized Israel’s obstruction of international aid work. German‑funded NGOs have lost permission to operate, and “recently, militia members stormed a girls’ school financed with German development funds during a lesson and expelled the students”. She said the situation is becoming “ever more intolerable”.
Regarding Gaza’s reconstruction, she reiterated Germany’s decision not to fund the “Peace Council” proposed by former U.S. President Donald Trump. “It is unclear under what conditions the money will flow in Trump’s so‑called Peace Council” she said.
Alabali‑Radovan dismissed Trump’s idea of a tourism oasis within that council, arguing that Palestinians need shelter, removal of rubble, and rebuilt infrastructure, not hotels. She emphasized that progress is slow and that the council’s first meeting produced no answers.
