Bundesfamilien‑ und Bildungsministerin Karin Prien (CDU) warned about a generation of men who feel abandoned. “What we must not allow is that we increasingly produce a generation of men who see themselves as losers-making them vulnerable to authoritarian worldviews and extremist content” she told the “Rheinische Post”. “As a government, we need to show young men that their needs are being heard”.
Prien explained that in the United Kingdom there is almost no wage gap between men and women. “This is not because the gender‑equality policy is effective, but because boys are more likely to fail school and consequently find fewer well‑paid jobs”. She added that boys also suffer higher suicide rates, experience more illness, are more prone to criminal behaviour and to violence. “A modern equality policy therefore has to address men as well as women”.
