The German Federation of Employers (BDA) has called for restrictions on the right to strike after Verdi’s renewed warning strikes.
In an interview with the “Bild” (Tuesday edition), BDA chief executive Steffen Kampeter said that “striking first, then negotiating-this destroys trust”. He urged a law that would set fair‑strike rules, accusing Verdi of an “irresponsible strike strategy”. Kampeter noted that many workers had already struggled to reach their workplaces last week, whether it was for public transport or winter services, and that strikes could potentially lead to damage or even physical injury.
Verdi and the civil servants’ union dbb are demanding a 7 % salary increase, or at least an additional €300. The disputes involve about 2.2 million employees.
