The German export industry welcomed the easing of US President Donald Trump’s stance in the Greenland dispute. “It’s certainly positive that President Trump has removed the tariffs. In a tariff war there are only losers” said Dirk Jandura, president of the Federation of Wholesale, Foreign Trade and Services (BGA), reporting to the “Rheinische Post” on Friday.
Jandura added that, from an American perspective, abandoning the tariffs is the only sensible route. Tariffs would inflate product prices, hurt both businesses and consumers, and ultimately weaken the US economy itself. “Inflation means the American people ultimately foot the bill for these tariffs” he warned. “However, what Trump says today could change tomorrow-this we all know. The reliability of trade relations has not been restored” he cautioned.
