According to provisional data released by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), German exports increased by 0.9 percent and imports rose by 4.4 percent in June 2026 when compared to May 2026, based on calendar and seasonal adjustments.
Year-on-year, in June 2026, exports grew by 6.6 percent and imports increased by 8.4 percent compared to June 2025. For the first half of 2026, German goods exported increased by 3.7 percent, while imports into the country grew by 4.4 percent compared to the same period last year.
In June 2026, calendar and seasonal adjusted exports totaled €139.3 billion, and imports were valued at €123.9 billion. This export figure represents a monthly record, surpassing the previous high set in September 2022 (€139.1 billion). Regarding imports, the June 2026 figure was lower than the previous peak recorded in November 2022 (€126.5 billion). The resulting trade balance for June 2026 showed a surplus of €15.4 billion, down from a positive €19.3 billion recorded in May 2026, and lower than the €16.4 billion surplus seen in June 2025.
For the entire first half of 2026, the export surplus totaled €105.0 billion (exports: €816.6 billion; imports: €711.6 billion), slightly less than the €105.9 billion surplus recorded in the first half of 2025.
Breaking down international trade, Germany exported goods valued at €79.3 billion to European Union (EU) member states in June 2026, while importing €63.6 billion from them. Relative to May 2026, these adjusted EU exports rose by 1.3 percent, and imports from the EU increased by 7.4 percent. Within the Eurozone, exports were worth €55.3 billion (+1.2 percent), and imports totaled €42.8 billion (+7.5 percent). Exports to EU states not in the Eurozone reached €24.1 billion (+1.8 percent), with corresponding imports from those countries valued at €20.8 billion (+7.3 percent).
Trade with Non-EU countries (third countries) in June 2026 saw exports of €60.0 billion and imports of €60.3 billion. Comparing this to May 2026, exports to third countries rose by 0.3 percent, while imports from them increased by 1.4 percent.
Looking at specific regional flows, the majority of German exports went to the United States. Exports to the US were valued at €12.1 billion, which was 14.2 percent less than the previous month in May 2026. Compared to June 2025, exports to the United States were 1.2 percent lower, based on adjusted figures. Exports to the United Kingdom increased by 7.7 percent month-on-month, reaching €7.3 billion. Conversely, exports to the People’s Republic of China fell by 0.3 percent in June 2026 from €6.2 billion.
In terms of imports, the People’s Republic of China was the primary source in June 2026, where €16.5 billion worth of goods were brought in-a 9.1 percent increase from May. Imports from the United States decreased by 9.6 percent to €8.7 billion. Imports from the United Kingdom dropped by 16.7 percent over the same period to €3.2 billion.
When examining nominal (unadjusted) figures, €147.0 billion in goods were exported from Germany and €128.2 billion were imported in June 2026. Comparatively, nominal exports increased by 13.9 percent year-on-year, and nominal imports grew by 14.0 percent. The unadjusted trade balance for June 2026 showed a surplus of €18.8 billion, slightly higher than the €16.5 billion surplus recorded in June 2025.
