New figures released by the Federal Employment Agency reveal a continued upward trend in the disbursement of child benefit payments abroad from Germany. During the first half of 2025, a total of €27.8 billion in child benefit was distributed. Of this amount, €270 million was transferred to foreign bank accounts, marking an increase from the €258 million sent abroad during the corresponding period in 2024. This represents a rise of 4.65% in international payments year-on-year.
Poland received the largest portion of these overseas child benefit transfers, totaling €109.1 million. Romania followed with €31.4 million and the Czech Republic received €25.1 million.
A spokesperson for the Federal Employment Agency clarified that the payments are made when individuals are employed in Germany and subject to taxation and that child benefit can be granted for children residing in their EU home country. The data also includes German citizens who hold bank accounts with institutions located outside of Germany.
