German Finance Minister Warns of Market Risks Amid Iran Conflict, Urges Quick Negotiations

Facing turmoil in international financial and commodity markets caused by the war in the Middle East, Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil (SPD) announced that he is closely monitoring risks to markets, trade and the economy. “We are watching the risks for the international financial markets, for trade and for the economy very closely” he told the Spiegel. “We remain in constant contact with our European partners and financial institutions”.

Klingbeil urged a swift return to substantive negotiations, aiming to secure a permanent abandonment by Iran of its nuclear and missile programmes and to curb its destabilising influence in the region. “It is now about preventing a scorched‑earth scenario triggered by the regime’s disproportionate retaliation. The civilian population throughout the region must be protected” he said.

In the event of a collapse of the Iranian regime, he demanded that the people of Iran be free to choose a new government. “It is clear to us: the Iranian people have the right to determine their own future once the terror rule of the Mullah regime ends” he added.
