German Government Calls for Patience as War‑Driven Energy Prices Rise, Announces Fuel‑Price Control Measures

The German federal government is urging patience as energy prices, which have risen sharply after the outbreak of war in the Middle East, continue to climb. Deputy spokesperson Sebastian Hille told the dts news agency on Friday that the government’s newly approved measures should first be allowed to take effect before further steps are taken.

The package, which is expected to be adopted by the Bundestag in the next parliamentary session, limits petrol stations to a single price increase per day and strengthens the competition authority’s ability to monitor the market. Hille said that the government will not only keep a close eye on fuel prices but also implement additional measures when needed, though he did not disclose what those might be or how they could influence the market.

When asked how long the government would observe the situation before considering new actions, Hille replied that the timing would become clear once further measures are put on the table.
