Political spokesperson for the Green Bundestag faction, Helge Limburg, called for the repatriation of Maja T. to Germany after the non‑binary individual was sentenced to eight years in prison in Budapest this Wednesday.
“Laws should not be set by allowing German police, such as the Saxon State Criminal Office, to strip German citizens of the protection of the Federal Constitutional Court through night‑and‑dawn raids” Limburg told the media network Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland. “Hence the federal government must do everything possible for a swift return to uphold the rule‑of‑law. A lawful procedure is not guaranteed in Hungary while Viktor Orbán remains in power”.
Maja T. is alleged to have attacked several people in Budapest around the far‑right “Day of Honour” in February 2023, together with fellow supporters. T. was arrested in Germany and was unlawfully transferred to Hungary in June 2024.
