Federal Minister of Health, Nina Warken (CDU), announced her intention to reorient the expenditure of the long-term care insurance system to emphasize preventative measures. Speaking to the “Rheinische Post”, Warken stated that there is no longer any room to sugarcoat the financial status of the care insurance. She noted that for some time, liquidity has only been reliably secured through loans from the federal government, a situation she described as neither sustainable nor generationally fair. According to the Minister, an honest assessment is the foundation upon which the upcoming care reform will be built, but she stressed that this reform will not be restricted solely to stabilizing the financial situation. Furthermore, Warken emphasized that the limited funds available must be deployed more purposefully to preserve health for as long as possible, prevent the onset of care needs, and provide better support for both those affected and their families.
