German Hiker Dies in Ammergau Alps Fall

A German hiker has died following a fall in the Ammergauer Alps of Austria on Saturday. According to Austrian police, the incident occurred around 1:30 PM while the man was descending the Säuling, a mountain approximately 2,000 meters (6,562 feet) in height, as part of a group of eight German nationals.

The deceased, a 64-year-old man, reportedly slipped on loose scree during the descent and fell approximately 80 meters (262 feet) onto rocky terrain. Other members of the hiking party, including his wife, their two children and four acquaintances, were present.

All remaining group members escaped unharmed and were safely transported down the mountain by rescue services. The man’s body was recovered by police helicopter using a rope retrieval technique.
