Federal Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil of the SPD is convening a summit meeting for top representatives from both the German business community and the trade unions, prompted by the energy price crisis. According to reporting from “Spiegel” union and business association representatives are expected to gather at the Ministry of Finance on Friday for a discussion termed a “social partner dialogue concerning the economic and fiscal implications of the Iran War”. Invitations have been extended not only to the chairpersons and deputies of major unions, such as IG Metall and IGBCE, but also to the presidents and managing directors of the employer and economic associations BDI and BDA. This gathering is prompted by the continually rising energy costs. The discussion at the Ministry of Finance aims to address how both citizens and the economy can be relieved from the burden of high gasoline prices. Furthermore, the reform package currently being developed by the coalition government is also expected to be among the topics discussed.
