German Left Calls for Nationwide Ban on Deportations to Syria Amid Security Concerns

After former terrorist Ahmed al‑Scharaa’s visit to Berlin as Syria’s interim president, The Left warned against deportations to Syria. “Syria is far from safe. No deportations to the country should be allowed” said Clara Bünger, the party’s spokesperson on domestic and migration policy, in an interview with the Rheinische Post (Tuesday edition). She called for a nationwide stop on deportations to Syria.

Hundreds of thousands of Syrians have been working in Germany, with tens of thousands of them employed in so‑called “short‑age” or essential occupations, said Bünger. “They have long become part of society” she added. “To suddenly question their residency would be both unsolidary and economically absurd”.

Bünger further noted that since the takeover by former terrorist Ahmed al‑Scharaa, Syria has experienced serious massacres of ethnic and religious minorities, with thousands of civilians killed.
