The remains of a German-registered small plane were discovered in the Velebit Mountains, near the coastal city of Zadar, Croatia, following a crash. Croatian police announced on Saturday that the wreckage and the bodies of the two passengers had been found in the difficult-to-access terrain of the crash site. Authorities did not initially provide any information regarding the nationality or identity of the victims.
The aircraft, a Diamond HK36 Super Dimona two-seater motor glider, was en route from the Czech Republic to Zadar. Contact with the plane was lost on Friday afternoon after it vanished from radar systems around 4:14 p.m. The loss of the signal prompted a large-scale search and rescue operation involving civil defense, fire departments, and mountain rescue teams.
Despite initial delays caused by inclement weather, the wreckage was located using drones around 10 p.m. The Croatian police secured the crash area, and an official investigation has been launched to clarify the causes of the accident.
