German Man Charged with Plotting Attack on Israeli Embassy

German prosecutors have filed charges against a Russian national before the state security senate of the Berlin Court of Justice, alleging support for the terrorist organization Islamic State. The federal prosecutor’s office announced the development Wednesday. The defendant, identified as Akhmad E., is accused of committing several crimes as a juvenile.

According to the indictment, the suspect allegedly planned an attack on the Israeli embassy in Berlin in early February and researched online instructions for constructing explosive devices. This plan was reportedly thwarted by his inability to procure the necessary components. Simultaneously, he is accused of translating Islamic State propaganda into Russian and Chechen languages.

The man was arrested on February 20th at Berlin Brandenburg Airport while attempting to travel to Pakistan with the intention of joining the Islamic State. To finance his journey, he allegedly obtained mobile phone contracts for expensive smartphones and resold them for profit. Shortly before his intended departure, he is accused of sending a video pledging allegiance to a suspected Islamic State member.
