The German Federal Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) has commissioned Munich-based startup Tytan Technologies to develop a concept for the protection of military facilities and critical infrastructure. The project, spearheaded by the Bundeswehr’s Innovation Lab in Erding, aims to provide a comprehensive solution to counter drone threats classified as NATO Class II.
Tytan Technologies, founded in 2023 and specializing in drone defense, is the primary contractor for the initiative. The targeted drone threats include those similar to Iranian Shahed drones and their Russian imitations, which have presented significant challenges for air defense systems in Ukraine. According to the company, its interceptor drones have already undergone testing and integration into Ukrainian air defense systems.
Leveraging experience gained from its operations in Ukraine, Tytan aims to adapt its technology for the protection of German assets. The proposed concept will integrate expertise from various sectors, including sensor technology, radar systems and software development, to provide a robust defense strategy.
The Bundeswehr anticipates receiving a finalized concept from Tytan Technologies by mid-2026. However, the company intends to present an initial proposal to the Bundeswehr as early as spring, potentially accelerating the implementation timeline. The project represents a strategic effort to modernize the Bundeswehr’s defensive capabilities against evolving drone threats.
