The German Defence Ministry is reportedly suspending an officer on suspicion of leaking confidential information about long‑term weapons programmes. Internal investigations have been said to have confirmed that the officer passed a classified list of intended procurement projects to unauthorized parties, the magazine “Spiegel” reports.
Because the alleged breach was viewed as especially serious, the ministry is said to have obtained a seizure order through the public prosecutor’s office. This order allows authorities to search the officer’s personal mobile phone and computer for evidence. The soldier has already been suspended, stripped of his security clearance, and faces possible dismissal. The ministry declined to comment on the ongoing investigation.
