German Military Puts Six Airbus Planes On Standby for Venezuela Earthquake Relief Mission

Following the two severe earthquakes in Venezuela, the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) has stated that it is ready to provide swift assistance, mobilizing up to six A400M military transport aircraft. Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) expressed his shock at the news of thousands of deaths, noting that the two seismic events were among the worst of the year. He clarified that the support operation only needs to be officially requested. Pistorius explained that this capability could be used to transport personnel and materials from the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) to Venezuela, as well as facilitate domestic transport flights within the affected country. Naturally, these transport services are also offered to local partners. The Air Transport Wing 62, based in Wunstorf, and the A400M aircraft have prior experience in similar disaster zones; in 2023 they were involved in transporting relief supplies to the earthquake area in Turkey, and in 2024 and 2025 responded to humanitarian efforts involving dropping aid over the Gaza Strip.
