Federal Family Minister Karin Prien (CDU) has sharply criticized the EU Equal Pay Transparency Directive, announcing that she intends to reopen negotiations at the European level. Speaking to Politico, Prien noted, “I haven’t done that yet. We are in discussions with our European partner countries and we will see if we can achieve something more together with the European Commission” the Family Minister stated. Although she does not see a complete abolition of the directive as realistic, Prien admitted that implementing it without excessive bureaucracy is likely unavoidable. She framed this as a commitment to the European Union, adding, “We also place great emphasis on other European partners ultimately upholding the agreements made. Within this tension, we are working”.
