German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) has voiced concerns regarding Israel’s ongoing military operations in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing the need for increased proportionality.
Speaking to RTL and n-tv broadcasters on Monday, Wadephul affirmed Germany’s continued support for Israel in its fight against Hamas. However, he expressed that the conflict’s trajectory has reached a point of serious concern. “The situation has taken on aspects that, from our perspective, are no longer tenable. Too many people are dying, too many are suffering and too many are facing hunger. Therefore, we believe that significantly more action must be taken by Israel.
Wadephul acknowledged Israel’s involvement in a multi-front conflict as a contributing factor to the high casualty rate and widespread hunger within the Gaza Strip. He stated that Israel is, in his view, losing sight of proportionality in its actions and urged a change in approach. The comments reflect a growing sentiment regarding the humanitarian impact of the ongoing military engagements.
