A recent survey indicates a significant portion of German citizens perceive their current living conditions as being worse than they were a decade ago. According to a poll conducted by the Institute for Opinion Research (Insa) and reported by “Bild” 60.4 percent of respondents believe life in Germany is (somewhat) worse today compared to 2015. Conversely, only 8.1 percent feel life is (somewhat) better. A further 28 percent described their living circumstances as unchanged.
The survey, commissioned by “Bild” was conducted between July 18th and 21st, 2025 and included responses from 1,001 eligible voters.
Despite the prevailing sentiment regarding changes over the past ten years, the survey also gauged overall satisfaction with living in Germany. Approximately 24.9 percent of those surveyed expressed a strong preference for living in Germany, while 45.6 percent said they generally like living in the country. However, 19.7 percent indicated they generally dislike living in Germany and 5.7 percent stated they strongly dislike it. The findings offer a nuanced perspective on citizen sentiment regarding living conditions and overall satisfaction within the nation.
