Maja T., a non‑binary German person, was sentenced to eight years in prison in a Budapest court for violent attacks on alleged right‑wing extremists. The judge announced the verdict on Wednesday, finding Maja T. guilty of life‑threatening bodily harm and participation in a criminal organization.
The case is part of the so‑called Budapest complex, which concerns a wave of assaults carried out by left‑wing activists against alleged right‑wing targets during the “Day of Honour” event in February 2023. Hungary issued a European arrest warrant for Maja T. in November 2023, and the extradition was completed in June 2024. A later decision by the German Federal Constitutional Court ruled that the extradition had been unlawful.
