Vice‑President of the German Bundestag Omid Nouripour, a member of the Green Party, has called on German authorities to swiftly impose an operational ban on the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps operating in Germany. He told newspapers of the Funke media group that the United Kingdom and other European states have finally succeeded in placing the Guard – the backbone of Iran’s oppression – on the terrorist list, and insisted that this designation be enforced in Germany. “I am completely unclear as to what the federal interior minister is waiting for” he added.
Nouripour also urged the Federal Prosecutor’s Office to investigate crimes against humanity committed by Iranian forces in recent weeks, saying that such an inquiry would demonstrate to the perpetrators that they cannot escape judgement. He cautioned against expelling Iran’s ambassador from Germany, arguing that it would likely trigger the closure of the German embassy in Tehran and create a difficult situation for citizens needing visas to exit the country. Moreover, he warned that full internet shutdowns in Iran would strip the German government of on‑ground information. Instead, he proposed that Germany freeze the private assets of regime officials residing in the country, a measure he felt would directly impact them.
