German Parties Warn AfD Against Emulating US ICE for Deportation Policy

Politicians from the CDU, SPD and Greens have accused the AfD of modelling its migration policy on the controversial U.S. immigration agency ICE. They say that, following several unexplained deaths, the party is “glorifying Trump’s domestic policy without distance” suggesting that some within the AfD actually want an authoritarian regime that ultimately threatens the freedom of every individual. Interior‑political officer Marc Henrichmann (CDU) told the “Handelsblatt” on Tuesday, pointing to the “flagship of German rule of law” which holds that life and bodily integrity are inviolable.

The SPD MP Dirk Wiese sharply criticised the AfD’s ICE‑referencing. “If the AfD really thinks it can dispense with people who have migration backgrounds and terrorise them like ICE, I recommend that their members take a quick adult education course on: ‘How do I take care of myself in old age?'” he said to the “Handelsblatt” on Tuesday, addressing the party’s “deportation fantasies” and “racist, demeaning attitude”.

Greens’ interior‑policymaker Marcel Emmerich said that ICE’s methods-militarisation, aggressive raids, lethal force and systematic curtailment of judicial oversight-are no role model for policing in a free democracy. “When parts of the AfD demand this for Germany, it speaks volumes and underscores the people‑hatred inherent in their politics” he added to the same newspaper.
