Franziska Brantner, the federal chair of the Greens party, has received one of the recent alerts from Apple, indicating that her mobile phone may have been compromised. According to the newspaper Spiegel, the politician immediately shut down her device and contacted the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI).
The alert was issued by Apple last week, warning individuals across 99 countries about an attack involving professional spyware. The BSI has confirmed that several members of the Bundestag and other prominent public figures were among those warned.
In addition to politicians, the warning reached various individuals, according to Spiegel reports, including those who accompanied Chancellor Merz on his recent trip to Asia, employees of federal ministries, several journalists, and high-ranking employees of German companies.
Government spokesperson Stefan Kornelius stated on Monday that the federal government views the incident “very seriously.”
