The planned move of President Frank‑Walter Steinmeier and the presidential office to a temporary facility is pushed back.
“According to the current situation, we expect the building handover in spring and the relocation before the summer break” an official told “Der Spiegel”. The move was originally scheduled for the spring of this year into interim rooms in Berlin‑Moabit. However, the unusually harsh winter in Berlin has stalled the work on the new site.
The harsh weather conditions over the past weeks have impacted construction operations, causing delays in the completion of the building. As a result, the move is expected to be postponed by at least three months. While the initial plan was for a move around Easter, the target has now shifted to July.
The relocation is necessary to carry out extensive, fundamental renovation work on Schloss Bellevue, the presidential office building, and its surrounding grounds-a process that is projected to take about five years.
