German Rail’s Punctuality Goals Relaxed

The German Federal Minister for Transport, Patrick Schnieder, has adjusted the punctuality targets for Deutsche Bahn’s long-distance rail services.

Speaking in Berlin on Monday, Minister Schnieder stated that his key performance indicator focuses on establishing a clear upward trend, aiming for a punctuality rate of at least 70 percent across the long-distance network by 2029. This revised target represents a modification from previous aspirations, with Deutsche Bahn previously outlining ambitions to achieve the 70 percent mark as early as next year.

Schnieder further outlined a phased approach, suggesting a midterm goal of 80 percent punctuality, culminating in a long-term ambition of reaching 90 percent. “This represents a considerable journey” he acknowledged, emphasizing the importance of continual progress toward this benchmark. The adjustments reflect the complexities involved in revitalizing the rail network and underscores a commitment to sustainable improvement over time.
