Within a decade the import of skis and snowboards into Germany fell by 29.8 %. In 2024, German customs recorded 518 800 units-alpine skis, cross‑country skis, monoskis and snowboards-imported at a total value of €71.7 million, according to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). In 2014 the figure was 739 200 units, and the lowest level in the decade was reached in the pandemic year 2021 with only 405 100 imports.
German exports of the same gear also declined, but by a smaller margin of 18.8 %. In 2024 523 100 skis and snowboards were shipped abroad, worth €95.2 million; 2014 saw 644 500 units exported. For the first time since 2021, Germany exported more than it imported.
Of the 518 800 imported units, 36.7 % (190 200 items) came from China. Austria supplied 24 % (124 400 items) and Slovenia 8.2 % (42 700 items), together accounting for just over two‑thirds of Germany’s total imports.
Germany’s export destinations were more diversified. France received 15.7 % of the exports (82 100 units), followed closely by Austria with 15.1 % (78 800 units). The United States accounted for 12.3 % (64 400 units).
Within the imports, alpine skis made up 58.9 % (305 700 pairs) and snowboards plus monoskis comprised 26.2 % (136 000 units). On the export side, alpine skis dominated at 79.4 %, while snowboards and monoskis represented 17.5 %.
