The Social Association Germany is calling for parity in the composition of German parliaments. The chairwoman, Michaela Engelmeier, told a Bayern Mediengruppe newspaper that, despite equality being repeatedly emphasized in politics and even highlighted in the current coalition contract, this principle is not reflected in the actual seat distribution. She added that women remain under‑represented in German parliaments, particularly in the Bundestag, and therefore demands a gender‑balanced electoral law. The association urges parties to adopt a parity act ensuring that men and women hold half of all parliamentary mandates each. Female politicians, as well as the CDU and SPD, have advocated for greater parity efforts within the planned electoral‑reform framework.
