At the European Swimming Championships in Paris, Germany’s Johannes Liebmann achieved a world record in the men’s 1,500-meter freestyle, securing a gold medal for his country. The 19-year-old swimmer from SC Magdeburg completed the 1.5-kilometer race on Saturday evening in 14 minutes, 26.79 seconds. This time improved the previous best performance by nearly four seconds and smashed the existing European record by six seconds.
Liebmann had previously secured another gold medal in the 800-meter freestyle earlier in the Paris competition. Following him, Zalán Sárkány of Hungary placed second, finishing 13 seconds behind Liebmann. Oliver Klemet from Germany came in third, just about a second after Sárkány.
