Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder (CDU) urged European leaders to rapidly harmonise the legal basis needed for military infrastructure. He explained to “Handelsblatt”‘s Monday edition that moving troops and equipment currently requires at least 45 days to secure cross‑border permits; “we must cut that down to three days, and in doubt to an immediate response”. Schnieder highlighted progress in national initiatives, especially the forthcoming Infrastructure‑Future Law, which aims to streamline procedures. By digitalising planning‑approval processes alone, time savings of roughly 30 % could be realised, and by abolishing upstream spatial‑planning steps-provided states allow objection periods to lapse-further efficiencies are expected. “I consider this one of the most important laws of this legislative period” he said.
