The Saarländische Landesregierung has reported a successful outcome following the celebrations marking the Day of German Unity, held recently in Saarbrücken. A post-event assessment, presented Sunday by Minister President Anke Rehlinger (SPD), indicated that expenditures are expected to remain below the allocated budget.
Of the 6.6 million euros designated for the event, the State Chancellery anticipates spending approximately 5.5 million euros. This underspending is attributed, in part, to substantial sponsorship income, totaling nearly half a million euros.
Over the three-day period, an estimated 400,000 people attended the public festival in Saarbrücken. The festivities featured over 600 artists performing across more than 20 stages and performance areas and approximately 240 exhibitors showcasing their offerings along the event’s various ‘festival miles.’ Visitors could accumulate up to eight kilometers of walking distance exploring the full scope of the celebrations.
The formal ceremony held on Friday was attended by all key representatives of the German constitutional bodies. Notably, French President Emmanuel Macron was present as a special guest. As per tradition, the Day of German Unity celebrations rotate annually to the state holding the Bundesrat (Federal Council) presidency, determined by descending population size. Bremen is slated to host the official ceremony in 2026.
