Germans Fear Russian Attack on NATO Territory

A recent survey conducted by the polling institute Insa reveals a majority of Germans are concerned about the possibility of a Russian attack on a NATO member state, such as Poland or Lithuania, in the near future. The poll, commissioned by “Bild am Sonntag” showed that 62% of respondents expressed this concern, while 28% did not and 10% were undecided.

The survey also explored public opinion on sanctions against Russia. A relative majority, 49%, believe that all deliveries of gas and oil from Russia to the EU should be immediately halted. Conversely, 33% advocated for the continuation of these deliveries, with 11% indicating no opinion and 7% expressing indifference.

Furthermore, 51% of those surveyed supported the utilization of frozen Russian assets within the EU – estimated to exceed €200 billion – to aid Ukraine. Twenty-nine percent opposed this measure, while 20% offered no explicit opinion.

The poll, conducted between September 11th and 12th, 2025, gathered responses from 1,002 individuals. The questions specifically addressed concerns regarding potential Russian aggression toward NATO countries, the cessation of Russian gas and oil imports into the EU and the leveraging of frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine.
