The number of asylum applications in Germany has significantly decreased in September. According to data reported by “Bild am Sonntag,” which cited the Federal Ministry of the Interior, only 3,345 initial applications had been registered as of September 25th. This figure marks the lowest level recorded since 2012.
The newspaper further detailed the trends, noting that 9,126 applications were recorded in September 2025. Compared to the previous year’s month, this represents a drop of approximately 55 percent. When benchmarked against September 2024, which saw 18,113 initial applications, the decrease is around 80 percent.
Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) attributed this development to the federal government’s increasingly stringent migration policies. Dobrindt told “Bild am Sonntag” that the lowest level of asylum numbers in 14 years is a direct result of the “migration turnaround.” He asserted that through control, clear direction, and a firm stance, the government is drastically reducing immigration, thereby providing noticeable relief to local municipalities. Furthermore, he confirmed that they are consulting with EU Migration and Interior Ministers at the Munich migration summit on how to consistently pursue this policy across Europe.
