The German federal government says it was notified in advance of the recent Israeli military attacks on Iran.
The spokesperson for the federal government, Stefan Kornelius, made the announcement on Saturday. He explained that the government is monitoring the situation closely and is coordinating closely with European partners. Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) has consulted with ministers from security‑related departments and will hold further discussions later in the day.
The Foreign Office added that it is watching developments in Iran, Israel and the wider region “in detail”. The ministry remains in constant contact with German embassies in Iran and Israel, as well as other diplomatic missions in the area. The federal crisis team will convene at noon on Saturday at the Foreign Office.
German citizens currently in Iran, Israel or nearby regions are urged to register on the ELEFAND list and to follow instructions from local authorities. Travel and safety advice will be updated continuously, the Foreign Office said.
Meanwhile, Iran is reportedly launching a counter‑offensive. In addition to rocket and drone strikes on Israel, an U.S. military installation in Bahrain-a U.S. Navy logistics centre-has been attacked by rockets, according to Iranian sources.
