The German government is adopting a cautious stance regarding potential new peace negotiations between the US and Iran in Pakistan. According to Deputy Government Spokesman Steffen Meyer, who spoke to the dpa news agency on Monday, Germany is committed to using all means at its disposal to help bring about a “long-term and sustainable peace solution”. He emphasized that this is significant not only for the region but for the world as a whole. However, Germany also possesses clear demands, which are particularly directed at Iran. Chief among these are the halting of the nuclear program and an end to threats posed by partners within the region. Meyer added that due to the high level of attention surrounding this process, “we are getting involved at various levels”. Recently, mixed signals have emerged from the conflict parties regarding the negotiations in Islamabad. For instance, US President Donald Trump announced that a US delegation would arrive in Pakistan on Monday evening, but it remains unclear whether Iran will send representatives. Furthermore, the current two-week ceasefire is set to expire on Wednesday.
