Germany Charges Suspected Saxon Separatist Plotters

Federal prosecutors have filed charges against eight young right-wing extremists from Saxony, Germany, alleging they formed a self-named terrorist group, “Saxon Separatists” and were preparing for an attempted overthrow of the government. The charges, detailed by “taz” and MDR, will be heard at the Dresden Regional Court.

The indictment includes accusations of forming a terrorist organization and preparing a high-treasonous enterprise. One defendant also faces attempted murder charges following an incident in November 2024 during his arrest. He reportedly confronted police officers with a loaded and unsecured rifle, prompting an officer to fire, resulting in a facial injury to the suspect. An investigation into the officer’s actions was subsequently closed citing self-defense.

All eight defendants, originating from the Grimma and Leipzig areas of Saxony, have been in custody since their arrest in November 2024, carried out by federal prosecutors.

According to the prosecution, the group had been preparing for a potential upheaval in Germany since the beginning of 2020. Their training reportedly took place in forests, a deserted airfield and shooting ranges. Discussions allegedly centered around the use of weapons and the potential for ethnic cleansing. Federal prosecutors have stated that the individuals shared a racist and antisemitic ideology.
