German military observers are closely monitoring ongoing Russian military exercises in Belarus, according to a spokesperson for the German Ministry of Defence. Speaking to the dts news agency in Berlin on Friday, the spokesperson stated that the Bundeswehr maintains a comprehensive understanding of the situation, encompassing the air, land and maritime domains.
The spokesperson emphasized that the concurrent NATO exercise “Quadriga” is not intended as a direct response or counter-exercise. However, the recent drone incident in Poland underscored the critical importance of regular training and readiness. The spokesperson reiterated the need to consistently uphold the NATO framework of “deterrence and defense”. Protective measures for personnel are being taken and adjustments are made based on the evolving situation, ensuring preparedness.
